This
two-year course, which is unique in France, provides the student with
skills in the areas of both medicine and sciences. Given partly at
Estienne and partly at the hospital of La Pitié-Salpêtrière, it enables
students to acquire solid knowledge in anatomy and to communicate this
through the medium of drawing.
Tuition is divided into lectures and
workshops and is complemented by exhibitions and other events related to
the area of medical illustration. The main subjects covered are : human
anatomy and morphology, semiotics, French, English, typography,
communication technology, 2D & 3D computer graphics, drawing, and of
course, scientific illustration.
Most of the time, the medical
illustrators work independently for the specialized press, medical
publishers, hospitals, pharmaceutic laboratories, etc.
A compulsory three-month placement is required at the end of the first year of the course.
